  4. Are these poisonous? Good dog. I've had two dogs bit by rattlesnakes; only the big dog survived. I've moved away as much as possible from snakes now. The big dog got so if she smelled a snake she would run for the porch but most dogs don't get a second chance.

    1. Yes Adders are poisonous, the only native one in the UK. I was bitten when I was about 6 months old, a very small baby adder that I picked up thinking it was a tiny stick! Luckily mum and dad got me to the vets quickly and within the hour of being bitten I was getting anti-venom and fluids. Phew! I want to avoid that happening again!!! So sorry you lost one of your dogs to a rattler...they are scary creatures.

    2. We didn't know it but at least for rattlesnakes, you can only get the antivenom one time! After that it causes anaphylactic shock! Sorry to hear you had to go through that too William!

  5. You're a very wise pup, William. It's a good thing Mum and Dad know you so well, to know why you were hesitant. We have rattle snakes here in my town and I have to keep Fiona out of our hills til the weather cools down now. She misses our mountain hikes, but we still get our strolls in around the neighborhood and downtown.
